The disappearance of Amelia Earhart

Amelia Mary Earhart was a noted American  aviation  pioneer and author. Earhart was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded for becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.

History mystery: Rudolf Hess' strange journey to England

double-hitler_and_hess-webRudolf Hess was born in Alexandria, Egypt on 26 April 1894 to a wealthy German merchant. He was educated in Germany from the age of twelve at Godesberg. Later on, he joined his father’s business in Hamsburg. In August 1914, Hess joined the German army. He served in First Bavarian Infantry Regiment during World War I. He eventually went on to become the official pilot in the Germany Army Air Service in 1918.

monsThe Battle of Mons was the first major action by the British Expeditionary Force during World War I.  From August 22-23 1914, despite being heavily outnumbered by German forces, British troops were actually able to hold the line at the Mons-Conde Canal near Mons, Belgium before being forced to retreat.  Despite heavy casualties, the British troops inflicted even greater losses on the Germans during the battle and gradual withdrawal which lasted nearly two weeks before the Allies were able to counter-attack at the Battle of the Marne.

The term was coined in the 1950s by Dr. Bernard Heuvelmans, who became president of the International Society of Cryptozoology when it was formed in 1982. The notion of hidden animals covers a range of meanings. First, there are animals that are known to science that are extremely elusive and only rarely sighted, such as giant squid. Second, there are many species of microscopic creatures that remain unknown because insufficient effort has been exerted to collect and identify them.
 

The Mysteries of the Crystal Skulls

The most famous of these is the legendary Mitchell-Hedges skull, named after the British archaeologist F. Albert Mitchell-Hedges. Its origin is believed to be in Central America.The incredible thing about the Mitchell-Hedges skull is its craftsmanship. Much like the Great Pyramids of Egypt, it is impossible that it was crafted by the people of its time.
 

World War II Foo Fighters

foofighterIn the 1938 comic strip Smokey Stover, a firefighter was known for his line, "Where there's foo, there's fire". From Smokey, aircraft pilots borrowed the term "foo fighter" to describe the various unexplainable phenomenon seen in the skies over Europe and the Pacific theatre during World War II. While Allied pilots initially thought the flying objects were German secret or psychological weapons, after the war it was discovered that sightings were also reported by the enemy, who had assumed the crafts were US-made. To this day, the sightings remain a mystery.
